Bauxite Sweeps Episcopal and Meet Cy Young Winner

By Steven Tew, Bauxite Miners Assistant Baseball Coach:

I was really excited for the kids to have the opportunity to play at that stadium (Lamar Porter Field). There is a lot of history in that stadium. It was built back in the 1930's, and Hall of Fame member Brooks Robinson played there. Recently, they raised a lot of money to improve the field and make considerable upgrades compared to how it was 15+ years ago when I was lucky enough to play there.

When we showed up, their coach informed us that his volunteer assistant coach is Cy Young Winner, Cliff Lee, whose son is a freshman on the team. With Cliff being from Saline County, he is a legend to our kids. They played extremely hard throughout both games and we were lucky enough to come away with two wins that night. After the game, Cliff met all the players and talked with them for several minutes before taking a picture. He complimented us on the way we played the game that night and wished us the best of luck. We could see the excitement on all of the kids' faces

It was a great win for our students and an experience we'll never forget!
