The Bauxite softball and baseball teams are hitting the road today for a big 7-4A conference matchup with Mena. Both games are scheduled to start at 4:30 this afternoon.

In ladies action, this is the 2nd matchup of the season for the 2 teams that squared off in the 4A state finals last year. Bauxite (12-2, 2-0) won the first matchup this season 7-1 at the NLR Tournament of Champions in March. Mena (8-6, 1-0), the defending 4A state champs won all 4 matchups last season. Both teams come into today's game undefeated in 7-4A play. The Lady Miners are winners of 6 straight games led by Sophomore pitcher Bailey Buffington who struck out 14 Lonoke Lady Rabbits Tuesday on the road. At the plate, several ladies have been swinging a hot stick including sophomore Daniele Singleton and Buffington, as well as freshmen Taylor Sledd, Destiny McClain & Ashley Redmon. Mena is led by returning senior hurler Jordan Ward. She is carrying a 3-3 record with a 1.90 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched. The Bearcats and Miners look to put on an impressive show this afternoon. In mens action, Bauxite is coming off a great week of baseball as the split home games with Ashdown and Clinton. They lost a heartbreaker in 8 innings to conference favorite Ashdown Monday but rebounded with a home victory over Clinton on Thursday. The Miners (7-8, 1-1) come into tonights road game swinging the bats well led by Junior Hunter Gautreaux .353 average and 3 home runs. They have been bolstered by Senior Taylor Vocque's mound presence as he has compiled a 2-2 record with a 2.82 ERA. Mena is 0-2 in conference but you can never count out the Bearcats at home. The Miners are looking to keep their momentum rolling as they get deeper into 7-4A play.
