Parents, the water was out at the school momentarily, but it has been restored. There was a leak on Gattin Road in Benton that affected Bauxite water. We are going to cover the water fountains out of an abundance of caution, but we have not been notified we are under a boil order. The cafeterias used reserved water in preparing meals, so lunches will not be affected. We wanted to make parents aware, but school is continuing as normal. Have a great day, Miner families!

Good afternoon, parents. Saline County was fortunate Friday afternoon in that we were not impacted by the tornadoes like those in Little Rock and the eastern part of the state. Our thoughts are especially with the community and schools of Wynne as they move forward after devastating destruction. We did find room for improvement after Friday’s severe weather event. First, we need the public to be aware the safe room is open to the public when there is a tornado warning issued for Saline County when school is not in session, but not during school hours. We do not have room to house the public and our students at the same time. Second, we had a lot of parents come to the school during an active tornado warning to check out students. Going forward, when a tornado warning is issued and students are sheltering in place, our offices will immediately close so our staff can shelter along with students. In general, students are safest at school, so please don’t endanger yourself, your student, or our staff by coming to the school during a tornado warning. If you want to check your student out due to severe weather, you need to do so before a tornado warning is issued for our area. Thank you for your cooperation and your trust as we continue to take student safety very seriously at Bauxite Schools.

Miner families, we will be having active shooter drills at all campuses today. These drills have been planned for several weeks with local law enforcement. Normally, we wouldn't announce drills in advance, but with the tragedy in Nashville yesterday, we wanted to alert you to avoid alarm. We won't share the time of the drill in advance, but when we have the drill, it will be announced as a drill. Thank you for trusting us with student safety; we take the responsibility very seriously.

Miner families, after checking our bus routes this afternoon, we currently plan to be open Thursday. If we receive precipitation overnight that makes driving dangerous, that would change our plan. We will check bus routes between 4:30 and 5:00 in the morning, and if we make the decision to close, we will send text alerts, post to our social media accounts, as well as alert the news stations. Safety of students and staff remains our top priority.

Bauxite families, we had a planned lockdown drill earlier today at BMS. BMS teachers were told it was a drill at the time of the drill. The RAVE panic button was also tested at this time. Unfortunately, high school staff also received the alert from the RAVE panic app, but the alert did not indicate that it was a drill. This was an error, and we are actively working to make sure this does not happen again. Safety training occurs to help us be better prepared for actual emergencies, so even though unnecessary alarm was caused, we can learn from this. We would never cause alarm for a drill intentionally. We love our staff and our Miner families. Thank you for your understanding.
